Ethylene production by soil microorganisms.

Ethylene-producing strains of Penicillium cyclopium and P. crustosum were isolated from soil. These isolates produced ethylene on a variety of carbon growth substrates including phenolic acids. The quantities of ethylene produced on the various substrates varied, and the subtrate-ethylene prosuction pattern for P. cyclopium strains differed significantly from that of P. crustosum strains.

Fungal growth rate and the formation of ethylene in soil.

The rates of ethylene production per unit mass of Mucor hiemalis are highest at low specific growth rates. Thus this fungus probably produces more ethylene in the soil, where growth rates are low, than would have been predicted by laboratory batch culture, where growth rates are high. The rate of utilization of energyyielding substrate by Mucor hiemalisincreases logarithmically with growth rate...

Soil erosion by assessing hydrothermal conditions of its formation

Soil erosion is one of the vital factors contributing to the loss of fertility and environmental degradation. Generally accepted diagnostics of eroded soils is based on comparison of the sloping soils profile depth with the watershed soils. In this case, there is a separate problem of slope soils with a naturally shortened profile and eroded soils. Formation of the soil’s natura...

Biological Removal of Dibenzothiophene from Soil and Changes to soil Sulfate by White-Rot Fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium

This study investigated biodegradation of dibenzothiophene (DBT) in marsh soil spiked bywhite-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Soil samples were spiked with 100 ppm DBTand incubated at 30°C in a dark chamber for 30 days. Samples were evaluated for pH, Mnperoxidaseactivity, sulfate ion concentration and growth during the tests. Results showedmaximum levels of pH, Mn-peroxidase and sulfate...
